In a shallow lake that has no strong thermocline or stable anoxic layer, if the benthos-water interface is anoxic and Phosphorous is released into the water, will it be immediately re-precipitated when it hits the oxygenated water?
Same basic question but with a different cause: If a diel photosynthetic/respiration cycle exists and anoxic conditions are created at night due to macrophyte/algae respiration, will any P that is cycled out of the benthos be precipitated back to the sediments once the cycle reverses and sends the oxygen way up? (assuming it hasn't already been taken up as nutrients by consumers)
