Call for Abstracts


We are pleased to announce the first joint conference between the Oregon Lakes Association (OLA) and the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Society of Freshwater Science (PNW SFS)


WhenTues. Oct. 27 & Wed. Oct. 28, 2026 (potential field trips on Thurs. Oct. 29) 

Where: Portland, OR at the University Place Hotel and Conference Center 


Presentations should inform our understanding of at least one of the following:

  • Freshwater ecosystems
  • Watershed restoration
  • Management of waterbodies and waterways
  • Climate change and aquatic systems
  • Water quality
  • Ecosystem processes
  • Aquatic invasive species
  • Fisheries management
  • Eutrophication and harmful algal blooms
  • Freshwater bioassessment


Your submission must include:

  • A presentation title 
  • Author(s), noting student authors
  • Preference of an oral or poster presentation 
  • Abstract of <500 words

To be considered fully by the conference committee, abstracts must include:

  • Problem statement/goals and objectives
  • Geographic area of study
  • Brief description of methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions/implications

OLA and PNW SFS have opportunities for students!

  • Applications are available for an OLA Graduate Student Award that includes $2,000, conference registration, and up to $200 to apply to conference-related expenses. OLA applications are due July 1, 2026.
  • Applications are also available for a PNW SFS Student Assistance Award (graduate or undergraduate; 2 awards) that includes conference registration and 2 nights lodging at the conference hotel. PNW SFS applications are due Sept. 2, 2026.

Applications are independently reviewed by each organization. Students may apply to both but cannot receive support from both.
